The spiritual energy of Goddess Tanit on Ibiza

Ibiza is known as an island with a strong feminine energy, linked to dancing, music, celebrating life, and there is a deity known as the guardian of the island, Goddess Tanit who protects it, so that its vibrant magic stays alive. Dating back many centuries, she is known to have protected the island from outsiders and external influences to uphold its magical energy and there are different locations on the island which serve as sites of worship as well as those where you can work with her magical energy provided. Who is Goddess Tanit?

On the Island Ibiza there is a Phoenician goddess who was worshipped throughout the years who is said to watch over and protect the island still today. Her name is Goddess Tanit who was a deity in an ancient civilization, associated with the energy of the moon, creation, fertility, water, protection, dance, music and joy. She is known to be the defender of living environments and protecting against poisonous creatures in locations where she is worshipped. Back in ancient Phoenician times, people prayed to her during droughts to provide rainfall, and today individuals living on Ibiza as well as people visiting the island, feel her energy guarding over the island and pray to her, working with her surrounding uplifting energy.

Goddess Tanit has been worshipped around various locations like Malta, Sicily, or Egypt yet as she is the guardian of Ibiza, she brings her main power to the island. She is Ibiza’s deity and since dance, music and singing are associated with her, it is said she is the original influence behind the Island being a location of dance and music.

The consort (partner) of Goddess Tanit was God Baal Hammon, known as the chief deity in Phoenician times. He was associated with the energy of the sun, fertility, storms, weather and destruction.  

Goddess Tanit is seen as the moon god and Baal Hammon is seen as the sun god. He complimented Tanit’s female energy with his masculine energy, and as they work together he would first destroy to clear locations for rebirth so that she could create on the neutralized grounds. As a side note, destruction isn’t a bad thing, it clears the way for the new ;)

Sacred locations associated to Goddess Tanit

Her powerful energy can be felt all around the Island, yet there are some locations which hold a very strong energy and some where there were sites built in worship of her. All the way up North, is Tanit’s Cave which is a site of worship dedicated to her and all the way on the other side of the island in the South you find Es Vedra, which is also associated to her powerful harnessing energy. Another place, which was created for her back in the day but which no longer stands, is a temple that used to be in main town Ibiza, which is now where the cathedral stands.

• Tanit’s Cave

In the northern part of the island, in Sant Joan, there is a Cave “Cova d’es Culleram” also known as Tanit’s cave which is a dedication to Goddess Tanit. Officially discovered in 1907, it already served as a place of worship since the 5^th century, where people would pray for assistance to Goddess Tanit, especially during times of drought.

The cave is open to enter during the summer season, so if you go from October until April you can only visit the cave from the outside, which is still a beautiful and powerful exploration. The journey to the cave itself is a longer walk through the forest of northern Ibiza where you will find parking spots about 1 km from the cave. Whether you go alone or in a group, expect some magical synchronistic encounters to happen when you take this adventure!

• Es Vedra

All the way in the south, there is the mountain Es Vedra in the middle of the ocean facing the cliffs, which is full of light energy. People go there to walk during the day, or to watch mesmerizing sunsets. Back in the 70s groups of people lived in the caves facing Es Vedra working with its magical uplifting energy.

You can park at the “new parking Es Vedra” and simply walk along the cliff facing Es Vedra any time.

Both these locations polarize, they are like the Ying and Yang of the island, just like Goddess Tanit and God Baal Hammon themselves. Tanit’s Cave in the North is associated with leaving your shadow side there. And Es Vedra is associated with harnessing and amplifying your light side. In Tanit’s Cave, despite it being a spiritual location full of wonders, you can also feel quite heavy energy surrounding it, as on a spiritual level, people have asked for Goddess Tanit’s aid in releasing their shadow side at the Cave.

At Es Vedra, you can feel such a bright and uplifting energy all around as the electromagnetic field of people going there gets strengthened, in other words amplifies more love, joy and happiness.

Remember, since everything is energy, there is so much happening in the “invisible realm” which is nothing else than quantum physics. We all have an energetic field around us, which a lot of different currents run through, some are favorable (known as our light) and some are less favorable (known as our shadow side). This electromagnetic field is impacted by our own thoughts, habits and actions as well as external factors. When we work on ourselves and aim to vibrate at higher frequencies, we can ask for aid in the spiritual realm to help remove our shadow side and amplify our light side. The polarizing energy of the island

On the Island you can strongly feel the presence of polarizing energies. On one side you have the spiritual magical side working together with the powerful energy available, with organic farms, markets, spiritual healers and teachers, shops, events, clubs, gatherings, all spreading true love where there is plenty of music and joy and on the other you have the consumer / materialism focused energy where a darker environment has been growing over the years. The energy on the island is truly magical, due to its electromagnetic field with which you can harness positive or negative outcomes. All around the island you can find different sacred locations and individuals which are working with the energy to create joy, abundance and beauty for the collective. And in specific areas, you can find a strong dark energy to which, if you are not a centered spiritually strong person you can get caught up in easily. It’s really something to be felt.

Most say that the “spiritual” side of Ibiza is up north and the party side of Ibiza is in the south, yet after being here for two months and driving around the whole island almost daily, I feel there is no north or south, its all intertwined. Sure the "hyper" party locations are in the south and up north it is more calm, yet the energies can be felt in almost all areas of the island. It is a very powerful Island which works together with you and is great for independent individuals, as you will find and encounter so many other independent souls wherever you go. The Island will provide you with what you are looking for, and if you want to raise your energy for yourself and the collective, it will provide you with so much love and energetic fuel, yet also will require you to put the work in!

Could Goddess Tanit and Baal Hammon have influenced the heavy rainfalls in October 2025?

There is a legend dating back to the Carthaginians, who were in awe of the island’s beauty, that on the first day after docking with their boats onto the island, violent storms followed for the next few days. These storms caused red earth to flow into the sea which was said to be a symbol of Goddess Tanit letting the Carthaginians know of her powers of the island, and to leave the magic of a simple beautiful life present on the island alive.  

Ibiza, since the 60s / 70s has been known as a place of joy, liberty, expression and freedom which so many individuals enjoyed. People from around the world, came to the island to dance, to listen or play great music, to celebrate life on this magical Island. Wealth didn’t play such an important part, people from all kinds of backgrounds mingled, as it truly was about having a great time, it was about the energy which you brought to the place. Clubs were accessible to everyone and money really was not the focus, it was about the individual’s energy. The original Ibiza vibe can definitely still be felt and found on the Island with some incredible clubs still harnessing it, yet it is less out there as it once was and many locals are being impacted by the touristic mainstream aspect growing there.

Over the last 20 years Ibiza has seen a rise in mainstream partying come to the Island, where the importance of consumerism and materialism has risen. Mainly in the area of Ibizas main town, where this magical energy is felt less as it is more fueled with a heavier energy.

In October 2025 the Island witnessed floodings which were not seen this strong since over 40 years! The area which was hit the most and also impacted quite badly was the south / east, that area with the growing consumerism and heavier energy. Other parts of the Island were not impacted or if then just a little bit.

Could it be that there was a spiritual cleanse that was taken place? That the powers of Goddess Tanit and God Baal Hammon were at work here? That the Goddess Tanit is protecting the Island from harming external influences? And with the joint forces of the feminine and masculine energies, God Baal Hammon created heavy storms, impacting certain areas, for Goddess Tanit to pour in the energy of fresh creation? The legends of Goddess Tanit and God Baal Hammon have been carried into the present for over centuries and are nowadays strongly called upon by many who work with the spiritual energy of the Island to keep its magic alive and protected. Ibiza is a magical Island, and is known for its vibrant energy as this can truly be felt when present there. It will test you, challenge you, reward you, provide you with magical encounters, synchronistic moments, opportunities and really allow you to grow as a soul as the energy at works here are so powerful, they are to be felt and experienced.
