The abandoned hotspots of Ibiza

There are two abandoned places on the island which hold much history, tales and energy which are absolutely fascinating to visit! One is the first night club on the island and the other an unfinished luxury resort. What do they have in common? They were pioneers of bringing joyous moments to people from all over the world and already became abandoned in the 70s.

Festival club of the 70s
Located in the hills on the south-west side of the island is the first club of Ibiza which opened its doors in 1972 and sadly already closed its doors in 1974. Festival club was the first club on the island taking partying to the next level. It combined the social joys of dinning, entertainment and disco all in one, being the root of all the clubs which exist on the island today. It was this club, which invented the concept of disco meeting entertainment activities, as it had a restaurant, hosted events, concerts, performances all followed by a vivid nightlife expressed on the different dance floors.
Despite having attracted various international visitors and being a milestone in the nightlife history, it closed down in 1974 due to financial issues. It was said it would reopen, but never did and today stands as a reminder of where the nightlife clubs began on the island. The official reason for the club being shut down was financial debt, however as clubbing back then was aimed purely for the joy of people and not so consumed by profit, there could have been certain influences playing part in closing down a location which attracted international visitors to purely enjoy life! But I let you ponder on that one.
These ruins where you can still see an amphitheater for spectacles, the restaurant area and various dance floors, all mark the clubbing Nightlife history of the island. With graffiti covering almost every part of every wall and nature having made its way through the grounds, it’s a colorful adventure allowing space for your imagination to time travel.
Unlike other abandoned places, this one holds a vibrant magical feel about it! When you go there, take some time to simply sit or stand in a certain area and allow the energies of the past to be felt.

Abandoned resort
The idea of building a luxury resort all the way at the north of the island above a beautiful secluded beach came in 1969. A rebel architect, Josep Luis Sert, was hired, who at the time was exiled in the U.S. and was no longer considered an Architect in Spain due to political constraints of the time. Yet only a year later in 1970, construction was stopped and until 1983 there was talk about continuing the building, but due to the architect, Josep passing away that year all development stopped. Following this, there was much discussion what should happen to this attempted resort, to be demolished or continued, and as no action was ever taken, if stands in ruins today. Marked with graffiti and taken over from nature, it truly is an incredible location to visit and to immerse yourself with yet another lost building of the history of Ibiza! Ontop of that the views are breathtaking and the beach below is a great stop to go swimming.

Both these locations which aimed to bring something beautiful to people on the island and international visitors, created environments where people could raise their energy, feel joy and be allowed to intertwin with the magical energies of the island. Back then in the beginning of the 70s, there were little resorts and no other club like festival club, so without going into too much detail, I let you imagine why both these locations were halted. Yet what is truly remarkable is that both stand today and can be visited keeping their pioneering energies alive.

Ibiza is so much more than internationally known and the history on the island is fascinating and varying. To truly learn about true history, you've got to visit places firsthand, explore them and feel them!
We are generation change.
Yours truly,
Isabel
