Tibet in Switzerland

Updated: Jul 12, 2021

Switzerland is full of history and culture, much more than meets the eye at first glance. The connection Switzerland and Tibet have is quite incredible! In different areas in the whole of Switzerland you will find Tibetan centers offering classes and insights about the practice of Buddhism or host events for anyone to attend. Equally these locations are simply beautiful to visit. Just like the one in the canton of Vaud, in Mont-Pèlerin Switzerland.

Short history of the center and the founder Geshe Rabten

The Tibetan center "Rabten Choeling" in Mont-Pèlerin, Switzerland opened in 1977 and was founded by “Geshe Rabten” with the help of western individuals in Switzerland. The Tibetan monk left Tibet to India in 1959 due to the political situation in Tibet and after working as a philosophical assistant to the Dalai Lama he was the first Tibetan Lama to teach westerners about Buddhism.

The location

On the top of the mountain above Lake Geneva, you will have the most incredible view over the Swiss-Riviera. It is particularly breathtaking and beautiful and definitely worth to simply visit the place and look at the spectacular scenery. Not just during the day, but the sunsets in the evening are extremely powerful and definitely a sight not to miss when visiting Switzerland.

The kindness of the Buddhist culture invites anyone to visit and have a look at either the center or simply its incredible view.

For Swiss citizens, if you are looking for a peace of mind, it is highly recommendable to go up there and sit quietly and enjoy the view or sundown. The energy at this place is hard to describe in words and is something to experience personally!

Accessibility

The location is accessible via car and for those who do not have a car, the funicular (a mountain metro) goes all the way from the city Vevey to the top of the Mountain Mont-Pèlerin which is situated just a few meters from the Rabten Choeling.

For further information, equally if you are interested in seeing what upcoming events or workshops are taking place feel free to have a look at their website: http://www.rabten.eu/visitSwiss_en.htm

Below you will find a short clip of the spectacular scenery at this unique location.

We are generation change!

Enjoy! Yours truly,
